Student Bursary

One $1500 bursary will be awarded annually; funds may be used towards either tuition or books.
Applicants must submit an essay of 500 - 750 words.
Submission deadline for the Graduating Class of 2020 is POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE DUE TO COVID-19.

Who Can Apply

Students who are graduating from Almonte and District High School, Notre Dame Catholic High School and Carleton Place High School and are pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce, Accounting Science, Economics, Finance or Business degree and have maintained a “B+” average or higher in accounting or business courses (transcript submission is a requirement).

Other eligibility criteria are based on financial need or a student’s articulated desire to pursue a Chartered Professional Accountant Program of Professional Studies.

How to Apply

Submit your 500-750 word essay about who you are and how the bursary will benefit you.

Submissions are accepted in MS Word format, attached to an email and sent to almonte@porterhetu.com. The body of the email should include: Your first and last name, mailing address, email address, phone number, high school transcript, the name of the university you will be attending and the program that you have applied for.

All applications will receive a confirmation email upon receipt.

Will the 2020 bursary be awarded in 2020?

The Colby McGeachy 2020 Bursary will be postponed until further notice due to COVID-19. We do hope to resume the applications once we know what will happen with restrictions.

What is expected of the successful candidate?

If selected, you will be required to provide proof of full-time enrollment in a Canadian accredited, post-secondary institution of higher learning (college, university, or trade school). Your photo will be published along with the winner announcement on the www.colbymcgeachy.com website and social media.

Can I share the details of this bursary with my students?

Educators are encouraged to share the new of this scholarship with the student body at the local high schools (Almonte District High School, Notre Dame Catholic High School and Carleton Place High School). You are welcome to post details from this page on any relevant pages of your own websites, in school newsletters, and/or share it via social media platforms.

What happens when you are awarded the bursary?

You will be contacted directly from the office either by phone or email. A date will then be set for the award presentation. On the date that the award is presented, we ask the student to dress accordingly as there will be press on site for pictures of the presentation. Please feel free to bring a relative, teacher or supporter with you. The presentation and pictures can take up to an hour. Your name, school and pictures will be shared on our website, Facebook and Instagram accounts.
